Have you tried throwing some almonds in there if you need a little protein kick - I do that sometimes too. Yeah- I'm a visual person, so it works better to see the progress rather than to just think I'm doing ok. I see the tube and I think "hell yeah, I earned THAT. I EARNED that!"
