12/29/09 - Two large Torrey Pine trees were removed this week at the Solana Beach Child Development Center (CDC) on Rios Ave. The decision to remove the trees was prompted by a recent scare when a branch over 14" in diameter fell into the playground area of the school between two classroom buildings. Although no children were present at the time, the School District determined that the trees posed a safety hazard. Large tree roots have also damaged sidewalks and building foundations at the school. Eight more large Torrey Pines remain on the property.
