This is the build process of the Fujimi 1989 Honda CRX. This particular generation utilized a front identical to the Civic, therefore I literally gave this model the approach of being a short wheelbase Civic Coupe! (hopefully there is a Civic hatchback of this generation in model form lol), particularly as where I am, New Zealand, there are MANY!

Building this one (having done several other cars already) proved to be a straightforward exercise - particularly with the wheels, which utilized metal axles (rather than the weak plastic ones often used by Aoshima and Tamiya).

  • how did you paint paint the tail lights and light housings?

  • @BulbaBulbaBulbasaur The taillights were brush painted from the inside (reversing lamps on this were a light coating of silver from the outside). PVA wood glue was used to glue to the bodywork.

  • not to be rude but that is not an 89, the 89 didnt have a spoiler, that would most likely be a 87, but then there wouldnt v-tec. so it would be a 91 perhaps... i like your job though, nice job.... as a proud owner of a 89 crx si, oh yeah

  • @miesterman12 Its all good - this model depicts the CRX in JDM form, chances are that the spoiler was an optional extra - the '1989' date came from the box art.

  • Nice work there joh, lovely work you did on that CRX. Well done

  • @scalecarcollection Thankyou! Your diorama approach with the Skyline model looks great...

  • an old civic would still last longer and be more reliable than a new hyundai........

  • I LOVE my old beat up old '89 CRX. I drive it more than I do my '06 triple black convertible Corvette, my 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Duramax, my 2008 Dodge 1500 Ram, my 2006 Ford Eddie Bauer Expediton SUV or my 2004 Chevy Colorado. Damn I have too many vehicles!!! I WISH Honda would bring back this GREAT little car. I will NEVER sell mine and it's about to be completely restored. The only other car I think I would like as much is the 2011 Toyota Scion iQ model.

  • @YOUCANNOTDENY it goes without saying

  • Where did u get that model crx from

  • Haw time

  • @merceed9 The Mk2 body was manufactured from November 1987.

  • now put a real b16 in!!!

  • @miesterman12:

If it were a 1987 would it not be the earlier mark 1 CRX with a ZC1?

I am not being rude either, although I have seen a 1989 in this shape with this spoiler... it was however a totally standard JDM 1.5. I have seen pictures of Japanese Si's with the ZC engine and this spoiler although there was a de-spoilered option and a UKDM style fast back spoiler. The early shape mk2 CRX is far better than the 16iVT or SiR in my humble opinion :D I too have an 88 CRX and I am in the UK.

  • @joh2 yes, some are two tone. this is still technically correct =)
