Dangerous to be that close to a bull elk anytime, but did you know that June is calving? I live near the Roosevelt herd in Big Lagoon and have seen first hand the unpredictable nature of elk and the reaction to tourists. I once saw a man and his wife climb a fence to get closer to the herd. When the bull stood up to protect the herd, they got very excited. A man yelled at them to come back, but they either didn't understand (they were asian tourists) or didn''t care. They barely made it back.
