Sustainable Seafood Measure Passed by Assembly

(Sacramento, CA) A measure authored by Assemblymember Bill Monning (D-Carmel) that would create the Ocean Protection Council (OPC) and develop and consider the adoption of criteria to certify local, sustainable California seafood, has been approved by the State Assembly. Assembly Bill 1217 would also authorize the OPC to implement a certification program in cooperation with a qualified marketing association to promote the consumption of sustainable seafood that is caught or raised within California.
