The thing about the "bad" customer service, small things like buying a fax machine is as easy as reading the benefits they post on the box, that's why they're there. Customers are just too stupid to take 3 minutes and read for themselves to get the information they need.

customers are lazy, therefore you need to help them buy in a way or another therefore your helping yourself...
even if you didnt know what it offers, you can easily joke around it and still cheack on the box after all. But at least the customer feels better.
