@seatboi They should be playable after about 4 hours in a baking oven at 55 degrees, as long as the heat is dry heat with no moisture it should do the job. The oven has to be well regulated around that temperature too. A food dehydrator is also great for the job as it will dry out the tapes like its drying out fruits and the temperatures are easily regulated at a constant temp. Google search baking videotapes and you'll get more info on the process.
@troysvisualarts Hey...I have some Radio Shack Concertape Audio reels that have gone sticky. Are you saying that if I put them in the oven at 55 degrees Celsius they will work again? They are priceless family tapes & they will only play about 10 feet before they squeel, bind & clog the heads! Sure wish I could get them to play just once so I could archive them in my PC! ;( PLEASE get back to me & let me know if you could! Thanks!
Thanks for sharing this video, I own a Sony CV-2100CE though don't have any tapes to test it with. I think the tape you are playing would likely be sticky as Sony 1/2" video reels made back then have been notorious for going sticky after some years due to bad chemistry of the binding material used for binding the metal oxide particles, so hence the tape will struggle to transport through the machine. Fortunately the tapes are usually playable after a good few hours of dry baking at 55 degrees.
