  • it's still surprises me to read comments on what is 'music' and what not...lots of people tend to be lost without melody (or a good beat)...yet nature itself provides rhythm and pitches...it's all around us every day...and whatever sound we choose to organise...that is music. "A composer is a guy who goes round enforcing his will on unsuspecting air molecules" (F. Zappa)

  • Sounds like gamelan!

    Stochastic music is incredible!

  • @splankhoon No, you are wrong. Music is "sound heard" (Cage)

  • Reminiscent of Dolly Parton wiggling her breasts against the bells of St Paul's Cathedral, London.

  • FYI Xenakis was an architect, and he viewed his compositions as physical constructions. Find a video of Metastasis showing the score go by in real time and you will understand. This is a guy who spent a part of his youth fighting against Fascism as a Communist rebel. To his ears gunfire and explosions are as much a part of his natural soundscape as cows are for farmers and "you son of a bitch" for guys who won't pay alimony or child support. His perception of that environment is everything.

  • @splankhoon All hail Frank Zappa!!!!!

  • @iWyke2 The score is written out with notes. These might just be his graphical representation for his piece which he then scribbles down on staves.

  • My favorite Xenakis piece. One of the most accesibles to the public, I think.

  • how do you read this??!?!?

  • I saw an exhibit of his work at the Canadian Centere for Architecture in Montreal. The man was ahead of his time...and still is.

The creator is a Mathematician and Xenakis brings us one step closer.
