[From "Kovacs Corner" on YouTube.com] - Although it is posted all over YT, no tribute site would be complete without Kovacs' signature comedy sketch. Of course, it's The Nairobi Trio's syncopated rendition of Robert Maxwell's "Solfeggio". As if you didn't already know, the costumed gorilla with the cigar in his mouth is Ernie. The pianist's curly blond locks suggest that it is his wife Edie Adams. The timpanist has never been identified but, in this particular performance, his apparent small stature suggests it is Kovacs' sidekick the late Bobby Lauher. At other times, the role was reported to have been played by Ernie's best friend Jack Lemmon, Milton Berle, and the Chairman of the Board himself, Frank Sinatra.

  • I've searched, but where is Ernie Kovac explaiining the rules of playing "droongo". It's an absurd, unplayably complicated board game. I have the soundtrack on an LP, but there was no video.

  • @EmmetEarwax - If it exists, it may be at The Paley Center for Media" in New York or still in the files of Ernie's estate.

  • i saw this on friends asnd this is the video that popped up

  • @EmmetEarwax you might find it interesting to know that his widow reported the network had simply taped over complete episodes

  • This is even better when the sound is sync with the video. Youtube is a scourge! Do a search for "Ernie Kovack's Nairobi Trio" and you'll see it in sync.

  • a classic piece of pantomime from the mind of tv's first creative genius.

  • Drummer Bobby Rosengarden also was a member of the trio on occasion, acording to what he told me.

  • HELL YES.

  • @jenkinscrowe I've found and listened to that commercial but it is not "Solfeggio". It is similar but not the Real McCoy.

  • @elc1960 - There is a YT video where a group of children recite this melody.
