  • OH except I forgot that there are different Candide scores out there. We must be doing the other one!

  • I don't know if there are other scores that Bernstein actually made. This one was changed for this production by the director to update it to current topics.

  • Wow. I am seeing this in London this July. I can't wait!

  • I'm definitely jealous -- wish I was seeing it. Check out the other 2 clips I posted.

  • Voltaire never mentioned the KKK being there, and it happened in Lisbon with is w/ the American flags?

  • @guitarmy039 The whole point is they're saying whaddaday to evoke the american overtones of the number.

  • @mnemosene1:

The original concept of Candide? Surely you mean the concept for the show. I don't know anything about whether it was related to the witch-hunts in that time in the U.S.A., but Voltaire wrote it hundreds of years before.

  • this is SO COOL.

    but, terrifying.

  • And it was so much fun to make!!

  • I saw this opera in Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris and I absolutely loved it!

  • Saw this production at ENO and though it differed in places from Bernstein's recording it was excellent, funny, witty, disturbing and very faithful to the original concept of Candide which was written at the time of, and in response to the Macarthy witch-hunts in the U.S.A. A very exciting production which I will see again as soon as I can.

  • Yick. I really hate their pronunciation of "What a day." It's like they're saying "Whaddaday." And they cut way too much out. I prefer the 1989 version with the London Symphony.
