Pressure Point (revised 1990)

To aid navy recruiters, program vividly illustrates the challenging and demanding training program that comprises the Aviation Officer Candidate School, NAS, Pensacola, FL from one participant's viewpoint. Using a subjective camera technique, this program appropriately emphasizes and clearly conveys the backbone of aviation. Reasons for strict discipline, physical training, classroom instruction and becoming a team player are also demonstrated.
 "Navy owned, Marine Corps trained"

  • They used officer candidates from my AOCS class (07-89) for the film because we were only a few days from graduating and weren't very busy at that point. It was fun for us because we were working with GYSGT Holt in a different way than we were used to--no real pressure, unlike the usual stress of AOCS. In fact, 07's actual drill sergeant was GYSGT F.X. Donahue, but the film crew decided to use Holt. Good choice--he really was that terrifying. Worse, actually, in real life.

  • Class 14-87, Batt II, SSgt Sosa, USMC

  • @RollWithMe247 You're dead on! But it was filmed in early 89! I was there... and I was in 13-89! It kept him busy for a few weeks. I think we were in week 7 or so when he finished and was back. Holt was INTENSE, yet you knew if you caught his wrath, it was earned. He was fair with his discipline, but it seemed to me he caught EVERYTHING! Only time I hurled in AOCS was during a personalized little one-on-one PT session with Holt in the Rose Garden!!! He left an impression for sure.

  • I have to go to Pensecola for flight training for 1 year before I even get into the Fleet!

  • Sgt. HOLT 2012!

  • Where's the part showing them learning to play volleyball and wear two pair of sunglasses?

  • I wish I had seen this before reporting to Pensacola in 1966. Come to think of it, it's probably better that I didn't. Might have scared me off. So glad I stuck it out. Flew heavy A3 aircraft off carriers and retired as a USAirways captain. It's been quite a life thanks to the US Navy.

  • Sir! aviation officer candidate Macklin requests permission to speak....
