More like they were being told stuff they didn't want to hear, namely that their technology had failed (especally the tin cans) or that a "civilized victorian englishman" would go insane and restort to canniblalism in order to survive, after being enduring almost four years of hell in the artic nor did they want to hear that there were survivors who had been left for dead

The three men on Beechey Island are: John Shaw Torrington died New Years Day, 1846, age 20; John Hartnell Died Jan. 4, 1846, age 25, and Private William Braine, Died April 4, 1846, age 33. Rest in Peace, May God be with you Lads.
