I don't know if I'd call this a love/hate relationship. Lestat is an imperious spoiled brat, effete and often vicious.

He took Louis because he was in Lestat's view, beautiful. He also wanted

death, and Lestat obliged, because Lestat wanted a hunting buddy. It was always what Lestat wanted. He really didn't give a damn about Louis or his feelings, although he understood them.

It was a good performance by Cruise, off the beaten path for him.

BITSELAERE: i think that there are many layers to their feelings for eachother. on one hand ther is a creator/creation relationship, where some of the dominance and submissivness manifests itself. then there's the love affair they have, which is very "sexual" as far as vampires go--so i guess you could call that part of their relationship "gay". then there's the part where they don't understand eachother and that fuels some hatred and confusion. many layers make for a complicated relationship.

Excellent vid! Lestat and Louis do love each other, even if at times Louis wouldn't dare admit it. I agree that Lestat is a selfish,arrogant & self-absorbed, after all, he is the Brat Prince. Lestat does have genuine,true love for Louis. I must say that Tom Cruise was the sh** as Lestat. Brilliant potrayal.

Lois lied at the end of Interview w/ the vampire about the last scene where Lestat freaks out about the siren. He made it up. And plus, Louis could never stay in such composure when Lestat is miserable.
