This video depicts field testing of the DARPA Legged Squad Support System (LS3). The goal of the LS3 program is to demonstrate that a legged robot can unburden dismounted squad members by carrying their gear, autonomously following them through rugged terrain, and interpreting verbal and visual commands.

No, a horse is a lot of trouble to maintain and they make noises whenever they want,often at really inconvenient times. You can't just power down a horse.This robot is still in early stages of development. Just remember this. I am 65 years old. All the stuff you take for granted, like the internet for instance, I read about it 50 years ago in science fiction. Read recent science fiction to discover the next 50 years.

Boston Dynamics' project are impressive in different ways. For example, you can push these 4-legged robots of theirs as much as you like, they won't fall over. You so much as tap ASIMO on the shoulder, his knees lock up and down he goes.

Asimo is a pure tech demo in theoretical environment, Boston Dynamics however build for real applications and extreme situations. Thats why those robots look so unfinished.
