**i've had several requests to commission/purchase paintings by shayne, if you are interested drop me a line and i'd be happy to talk about it it with you**

This is a video for Rewarding Behaviors Clicker Trick of the Month Contest!!!

This trick has been in the work for MONTHS. I started teaching shayne to paint with a brush but we both started getting frustrated with that so i opted to try something a little different. I taught shayne to get her feet in paint then stand on/run to/run from/spin on/etc a canvas.

It took nearly 3 months just to get shayne somewhat comfortable walking in the paint... it's slippery and i'm sure a strange sensation so it took lots of patience to get her as okay with it as she is now (though she still needs encouragement the first time she walks through).

I taught her to go stand on the canvas and taught her to stand in a tray (and to differentiate between the two). Then pretty much just desensitized her to the paint. I also did some work teaching her to push a ball across the canvas... she did that once on the outdoor painting (the yellow streak)...but she then licked the paint off her nose LOL!

I used a cheap children's finger paint (tempura) to start with since i wasn't sure how she would respond etc.. i will likely use acrylics when we improve since it will last longer once i check safety information.

We've had so much fun with this... shayne actually has come to enjoy the painting...jsut not the paint! LOL or the feet rinsing afterwards!

P.S. i painted the canvas with acrylic to prime it for shayne's painting work

  • awesome paintings. I can't teach Pheobie to use her paws because she gets upset with the paint on them and tries to lick it off. I had to train her to move the brush with her paws. Anyway, awesome paintings :D

  • Ohhh! I love Shaynes beautiful paintings.. :) I like the outdoor one alot too! Lots of funky colors and different patterns from the ball and paws! 5*s!!

  • Thanks! Shayne's issues with textures on her toes was really the only NEW thing i had to train... she knows how to go to a mark so i just gave these two "marks" specific names...

  • HAHAH those were her baby zoomies.. not quite sure why she wasn't full-blown but normally she is ALL over the place leaping from the couch running to my door up on the bed.. just a whirlwind of movement!

  • That's for the very nice comment! dogs are pretty amazing and capable of anything... i love them for it!

  • Haha,i actually do a lot of training in my bathroom. It is the only door i have in my apartment so we started working in there when teaching her to open and close doors... so the space became rewarding. PLUS it has a heater fixture so we put it on when it's cold in the apartment and hang out in there LOL!
