This opening was named after a Medical Doctor from Fifeshire who liked to start the game this way. The opening abounds in traps and pitfalls. The variation played is a solid way to play both for red and white.

  • Sorry for the many comments i leave but this video interested me...2:31...instead of 2-7 I would play 11-15....naturally I assmue 27-23 is coming ...is my move playable?

  • @lazimofo90 Your idea playing 11-15 instead of 2-7 is a good move. I think one of the reason you like this opening is that you can play it to your style. The 11-15 move would be very challenging move, you probably will have to give back the checker that you are up sooner and watch out for the shots that white will have at his disposal. The 2-7 is easier and can learn quite faster while you work your way thru this opening. Thank you!

  • if 11-16 white squeezes on 20 and thats annoying,..but i dont see any clear way it gets you in trouble..

  • @lazimofo90 Move 8. 4-8 is a important move. It is a developing and a waiting move and needs to be played first. If instead, 8. 11-16, 24-20, 16-19,23-16, 12-19, 27-23 white gets his checker back and has a winning position. or 8. 11-16? 24-20, 7-11, 27-24, 3-7, 24-19 and red is in trouble. Check it out. Thank you!

  • @checkercycle I get a bit confused with the game annotations man but i would give it a look on cake , load up the position and visualize it.....for me i see the board in chess squares like a1 c3 etc....hard for me to visualize the numbers (but I know how they work though).

  • @lazimofo90 You will adjust to the numbers or you can continue with the chess algebraic whatever you are comfortable with and the fact that you visualize the position is what important. I was a P-K4 person first before i got use to e2-e4. In checkers i find the number system is easier. Thank you!
