This is my first collector pick. The top of the Kenmore line for 1986 and Whirlpool's first production run of electronic control direct drives. These fine machines were a craigslist find and With the exception of the control board in the dryer everything is original on these beauties. The washer features; touchpad electronic lighted controls, Dual Action agitator, 3.0 cu. ft. white porcelain drum automatic triple dispenser and beltless direct drive. The dryer also has electronic lighted controls, easy loader door, top mounted lint filter, and automatic cycles for various fabrics. I'm thrilled to make a good find like this on my first collector pick. I've dreamed of owning this set since I was a small child.

  • P.S. FIX THAT DRUM LIGHT THE DRUM IS IN NEAR BEATUFUL CONDITION PLEASE!!!NERY NICE SET HOWEVER I REALLY DON'T BOTHER TO USE MY CONSOLE LIGHTS SINCE MY WASHER DRYER ARE IN THE SUN ROOM BUT GREAT FEATURE TO HAVE!!

  • @penhouse861 Hey there. The drum light works fine I just need to put a different outlet in where they are stored. Also the console lights come on automatically when these machines are running. I will do videos of the dryer once I have power to it. There is no way to use a belt drive agitator in a DD machine it would not fit on the drive block. The top part of the auger did look like the belt drive one in some of these machines.

  • Excellent set! I need to be honest and say that I am very skeptical about electronic controls, but since these are vintage, maybe they were designed better.

Was this one the early direct drive washers before whirlpool designed the neutral drain?

  • @Sharkie626 Thank you! These controls are original to the machine. The previous owner had to solder some connections but otherwise they have worked well over 25 years. This machine like all Whirlpools has a neutral drain. I don't know of any that don't.

  • Wow! What beautiful machines, looks new! I love the white porcelain tub and I can't wait to see it running. Congratulations. Have a good times with your Kenmore.

  • @bestcleaningwasher Thanks Rodrigo. Owning a set of these has been a dream of mine since I first saw them in the Sears catalog in 1986. I'll post live wash action videos soon.

  • @dualactionsurgilator I know of the Maytag BD washers that don't have the neutral drain. I know of my sister's Amana BD washer that does the spin drain, too.

  • We used to have this machine and I miss it. It was all analog controls which I like better. However, I miss the soak cycle, which our current washer doesn't have, and the dispensers.

  • @dualactionsurgilator hey,it's me mr forkfan,my "mrforkfan" account got spammed so i get this one,i comment on your early 1980s whirlpool washer

  • Nice set, you can't find these no more these days like the BD kenmores.

  • DUAL ACTION SURGILATOR LOOK UNDER THE LIGHT CONSOLE SEE THE LITTLE BLACK BUTTON UNDER THE LIGHT IT'S TO THE RIGHT OF THE LIGHT YOU CAN SHUT THE CONSOLE LIGHT ON OR OFF I DO IT TO MINES ALL THE TIME I SEE THE BUTTON ON YOURS ALSO TRY IT OUT VERY COOL P.S. DO MORE VIDEOS WITH LAUNDRY WHEN YOU GET THE DRYER HOOKED UP IS IT GAS OR ELECTRIC SO NICE MINES ARE BLACK WITH THE SILVER TRIM IN THE FRONT LOVE THEM WILL NEVER PART WITH THESE!!

  • i also remember when I was 13 at sears looking at that washer it was beautiful and I wish my mom purchased that set at the time but I tell you I swear the belt driven dd was in that washer and is in the one that I have now I will make a video for you as soon as i can ok they changed the upper cork screw and made it longer to get away with it thats how they did it but for a very short period of time

  • hi dual action surgilator thanks for getting bk I do appreciate it. Hey remember when you told me that the belt drive dd count not fit on a direct drive washer look at the sears kenmore commerical for that washer on this page and you will see that it's the belt driven dd on that direct drive washer sears pulled this design off for a short period of time be making the corkscrew part a little bit longer just like the whirlpool surgilators agitator look at that commmercial it's true

  • P.S. LOOK AT THE 1986 COMM SEARS KENMORE COMMERCIAL YEP THATS THEY AGITATOR THAT YOU SEE IN THE COMMERCIAL BELT DRIVEN AGITATOR IN A DIRECT DRIVE WASHER THEY PULLED THIS OFF BECAUSE THEY MADE THEY AUGER LONGER OF SOME OF THE MACHINES RESULTING IN THEY ORIGINAL DUAL ACTION AGITATOR BUT WITH A LONGER SPIRAL DESIGN LIKE WHIRLPOOLS DOUBLE ROLL OVER
