Escapement in wood inspired by Galileo Galilei applied with a set of non cyclic gears. Before building I was concerned that it would not work very well because of different pulsing against the pendulum caused by the variable powertransfer of the gears. But the difference in pulse is barely visible on the pendulum and doesn't interrupt the escapement at all. This proto only runs for about 10 minutes on a stone weight of 50 grams.

  • Thanks for responding. I'm at the point in my project where I will start my attempt at this escapement tonight via CAD. If I can prove it out I’ll cut it for testing very shortly after. This looks simple until you start thinking about the exact layout of the pivot points and so on. Ha! By the way, what type of drum is used for the background music? (Very soothing sound- Hats off!)

    The drum is a big frame drum of 23 inches, its a two track recording.

  • I think I have it now. My guess is that he lower pawl is used to push the pendulum and the upper pawl is used to release the lock and cause the escapement.

  • @TheWindGinProject Thats right! And very important..... both pawls have little offset to create a slip of about 2 degrees on the escapewheel before the lower pawl is engaged. There has to be an offset at least half the length of the pindiameter of the escapehweel, this way the tiny unlocking pawl is put back on top of the pin so the escapewheel can rotate to the next pin releasing its power on the lower bar.
