Actually Tibetan culture is flourishing now. So many singers, dancers, composers, and writers are growing up. Although there is contradiction between tradition and modernization, this is what every country has experienced.

BTW i apologize if i made it sound as if i am saying that all chinese dance has coy mannerisms etc....of course this is not true. neither am i saying that these types of affectations are always bad. Just that it sits oddly with tib dance. There is a diff between a dance form evolving and a whole scale redoing of a culture that was brutally attacked from the 50's onwards.. insiduous ways like this of "tibetan dance flourishing" ..better as hanification flourishing via propaganda?

why don't you have a referendum in tibet that is patrolled by inedepedent election watchers from the UN to see whether tibs are happy under communist chinese rule?

in buddist tibet before the communist chinese invasion there was no famine. after the communist's came to free tibet, tibs starved to death, and saw their priests who they revered as saints tortured to death in public.

in tibet before communist invasion, the death penalty was abolished and people's lives rotated around religion.

after the communists desecrated our temples and not only did not understand our beliefs but spat on thm.

the barbarity was shocking for tib who are spiritual.

you are wrong if you think most of the tibetans in exile are aristo or landlord background. they are only a handful of families, mostly interrelated and NOT FREQUENTLY Seen protesting for a free tibet or rioting in tibet as happened recently.

the most ardent tibetan nationalist in exile is found in the tibetan refugee settlements that are almost ALL "commoners"

BTW tibet did have a middle class. btw dalai lama's family was not aristocratic.

killing, pillaging, destroying our religious relics, attacking our beliefs that is genocide. allowing a few to sing their songs is not a favour...its a right and does not change history.

its a fact that tib history/architecture/furniture­/jewellery/costumes/dance/art is being deliberately repackaged to prove that tibet was a part of china all along.

ccp is so insecure they won't allow free information so mainlanders can make up their own minds by trying to study all sides.

nikki granted its not a flattering comment but why call it tibetan dance? thats not just annoying its MISREPRESENTATION and endangers and, imho, insults a spiritual culture that struggles to survive. the same goes for chinese culture that has been attacked by the cultural revolution. dance doesn't have to be all about aesthetics..looks/costumes or makeup etc..for some its about meaning and spirituality. is untrue that SOME chinese dance is from concubines + this does not mesh with Tib culture?
