  • Too much is being read into the picture. Sometimes a license plate is only a license plate.

  • @OrodesIII What is it the rest of the time?

  • My only question is if all of this is similar to numerology. Because you're looking for something, you'll find it and you'll find meaning there. To equate the other secretary talking about her husband named Teddy to the stuffed mother (who clearly wasn't stuffed, she was incredibly decayed) is just way too much of a stretch to be true. And that's just one example.

The part about the birds of pray was spot on though. Hitchcock talked about that one a lot.

  • @revealingtoomuch I'm not a believer in numerology, 23 enigma etc. There are so many examples in the film of double meanings in dialogue, eg Bates' stuffed bird rantings, and in Hitchcock's other films. And the Teddy comments are an unusual stray from standard script writing I think it's very unlikely it was accidental.

  • Excellent analysis as always! Rob, just out of curiosity, which film did you have the most fun analyzing/reviewing?

  • Bloch did not base the book on Ed Gein. Said he heard of the serial killer after completing the book.

  • @tigershark50 actually if you watch the remake it explains it

  • Hitchcock used birds in most of his films. He had a very real fear of them to the point he even feared eggs. He also feared his mother and authority figures like police so Psycho covered all the bases for him. The birds being stuffed is simply foreshadowing for the mummified mother and a nod to the Ed Gein source. Also only the Ms. Crane looks in the mirror often because she feels guilt but Mr. Bates never looks in the mirror as he clears her room of evidence to her murder.

  • to think someone at the bank would've been the psycho

Whatever you care to create from your imagination, robag88.

  • Terrorfied as a child from seeing this film prematurely, I had developed a macabre fascination with Hitch's works. When in university, I attended a literature course that discussed the skillful art of weaving symbolism and subliminal meanings in both literature and movies. Hitchcock was a significant contribution to that course. It gave me a whole new appreciation when watching. Your insights are quite on target and shed light on many factors the average veiwer may not realize. Thanks for sharing
