Something is rotten in the state of Boston if an amazing band such as this remained obscure and largely unknown, they disbanded less than a year after recording this their one and only album ........ how the heck did an entire city not see the insanely good band playing right under their noses?? travesty.

The LP was released in 1966 and this is the 1st print stereo edition.

  • Boston DID recognize the Remains and there were lines a mile long in Kenmore Square to get in to see them at their weekly gigs at the Rathskeller. They were my buddies at Boston University. However, they left Boston & BU in 1965 to move to NYC after they signed a record contract with Epic. They appeared often at Trude Heller's in NYC, As good as this album might sound to you, it really was a "canned" album because Epic didn't know what to do with them. The Remains live were the best.

  • @dream207 Thanks for this post man, some great insight into one of my fave bands :)

  • Something's rottener 'cause someone stole my mint (as in I was the first to play it), mono promo LP.

  • @lambrettist2007 Ouch, I never had an LP stolen from (knock on wood), but losing a mint Remains original would probably pain me for years and years, so I feel your pain, you are welcome to listen to my Remains uploads as much as you like good Sir :)

  • The remains had a good clear sound, one of the best of 60's. This is early psychedelia.

  • You're welcome Ardbug. I spent many hours with Barry Tashian & the guys at rehearsals as well as gigs in the Boston area. They are still doing gigs today in the U.S. and Europe, particularly Spain. They have strong cult following, and an off Broadway show was done a few years ago about their brief career. Barry decided to disolve the band after their tour opening for the Beatles during the Beatles last tour of the U.S..

  • @dream207 I knew Dave Sherman (good friend during 1970s-80s), their fill-in bass player. He is on the cover of that LP, though he wasn't a regular member. Studio error.

  • @Ardbug They did a "live" in-studio demo for Capitol which is available with -- and without -- dubbed crowd noises. Essentially they plugged in (fresh from a gig) and played their live set.

Both LPs are great. And a CD of all their Epic material -- LP plus singles -- is available.

  • @Ardbug I have both mono and stereo versions, both near-mint.

Some of us were smart when it mattered.

  • Another example of a band deserving greater attention based on quality and not quantity.
