Following tradition, Pope Benedict XVI celebrated a mass at St. Peters Basilica in honor of cardinals and bishops who have passed away this year.
Benedict XVI
"We remember them with affection and we thank God for the good they have done."
During the homily, the pope has honored their lives and their service to the church.
Benedict XVI recalled that death is a mystery, but illuminated by the hope of immortality.
He also said that faith can make uplift followers during painful moments, such as when you lose a loved one. And stressed that people can find hope in the resurrection of Jesus Christ.
