The University of Auckland Formula SAE team decided to turn their 2007 car - which no longer ran, into a basic simulator. Uses an extensively modified Logitech G25 - the wheel was replaced with one of original steering wheel for the car, the brake and accelerator pedals have been mounted on a sliding tray, and the clutch pedal is cable actuated using the vehicle's original clutch lever.

  • Hey, are these still around?

  • @KWAKNZ - I haven't been in the team for a couple of years now, so I've kinda lost touch with the exact status - I know they had been having difficulties with failures of the computer components (using quite an old computer + it has a bit of a hard life) so while the simulator is still intact, I'm not sure whether it's functioning at present

  • It's done in Live for Speed, we just used the autocross carpark and set out the track based on in-car video footage and sketches we took of the track.

By what method did you get the surface map of the track? What software is the car simulator?
