They did reach Baghdad many times, to trade. @Harky88 they didnt have one capital and one kingdom because they sailed off in search of new lands, vikings are norsmen, as i said before, they were the young men who sailed off and fought, they did reach more than just north america and iceland, again, they found silver from sweden in baghdad. they settled in iceland, they founded greenland, and they settled for a while in north america. vikings got their bad name from england when they destroyed the abbey church in england out of rage

@Geaxuce you have idealised them. One Viking kingdom? one Capital? the German and Dutch are descendants of Norse tribes. Vikings, have raided and left. Vikings and nordic Civilizations are NOT one and the same. Vikings are a product of Nordic people. They reached iceland, and America, yet nothing was left but wooden ruins. there was a 200 year era where Nordic tribes followed viking conquest. few new lands added. Germanic tribes were present in todays germany longer time ago, in the ages of Rome

@Geaxucethe UK was conquered by Saxons, who were later invaded by vikings, and have repelled the invasion. They never took over France Switzerland or Germany. They landed in Paris, and have raided it, then returned back north. everyone is confusing the Nordic tribes with Vikings? There was not a single long lived Viking kingdom. Vikings were traders too, they went all the way to Greece, and traded with the Mediterranean countries. They have left nothing behind except a few sailing inventions.

@Harky88 they conquered the modern UK, they traveled far and wide, they went over to North America, they have found objects the show that they have gone all the to Iraq, they were successful with their domination in Baghdad, but barely, they went south to the norther tip of Africa. They took over Switzerland, Germany, France, England (which later broke up into other countries) and many more countries, the vikings were a force to be reckoned with, id say they were pretty damn organized to do that

@Geaxuce the verb Viking, means to raid. When a band of outlaws was cast out of their settlement they were viking, or when a need presented themselves, they ventured on a viking. They could never dominate anything, because they were not organized enough, the only kingdom, or state that was co-founded by Nordic tribes and vikings, except Scandinavia, is today's Russia. Vikings were sailors and raiders, not knights and kings. Hit and run, never stay. and rarely got into groups of more than 200.
