Rose Maddox the legendary Sister Rose of the Maddox Brothers and Rose on a very hard to find performance of the classic song Honky Tonkin´back in 1987. Due to failing health Rose was forced to give up her career just shortly before she died of kidney problems in 1998.

  • She came from an era when they really had good female country vocalists!!! Rose Maddox and the Maddox Brothers are long overdue for the Hall of Fame!! We'll always miss Rose and the other greats from that era.

  • Hello there!

  • Never was and never will be anyone like Rose - sure do miss her. Thanks for posting this it is from around the time that I saw her often - what a great lady. Maddox Bros & Rose were the real roots of Rock & Roll - if you listen to "Step it up & Go" those are R&R licks and that was 3 years before Ike Turner & Jackie Brenston did Rocket 88, Maddox Bros & Rose should be the R&R Hall of Fame as the inventors.

    NAB :-)

  • cool stuff - one of the most interesting country bands, but apparently not loved by the country establishment, so no grand ole' opry.

  • does anyone know about her singing the song Me and Bobbie McGee?

  • Markie Sanders is playing bass.

  • That steel guitar player seems kinda confused.

  • great:)

  • love this lady , what a voice , we owe much to these ladies who came way before their time...true pioneer queens

  • THANKS for posting this delightful gem!

I'm too young to remember Rose & the Maddox family, but my mom (an Okie gal who moved to Calif as a child in the late 30's) has told me how hugely popular they were here back in the 40's & 50's. How sad that she's no longer with us. What an electric performer! I hope you & yours have a VERY happy holiday season!

  • It probably means something to a million or more Marines also. Been forty years since I drank a beer there and still havent forgotten the place!!! Nor Rose!!!
