Sama Duo - Her Words Bring Me To Life Again (2011) (oud and drums)

Sama Duo ( world music groove improv duet ) featuring oud and drums, from last week's "Jazz Deconstructed" performance at the Kosmos, Albuquerque. I've broken up the long oud and drums clip into smaller sections for easier viewing.

Long been a fan of the Ensemble Ibn Arabi and the poet they are named after. This is a beautiful, moving tune I first heard from the Ensemble Ibn Arabi and was inspired to do a version of it. "When she kills with her glances, her speech restores to life, as tho' she, in giving life thereby, were Jesus."

'She kills with her glances': referring to the station of passing away in contemplation (###). 'Her speech restores to life': referring to the completion of the moulding of man when the spirit was breathed into him. She is compared to Jesus in reference to Kor. xxxviii, 72, 'And I breathed into him of My spirit,' or Kor. xvi, 42, 'That We say to it "Be", and it is.'
