14th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP14) will take place in Poznań, Poland 1-12 December 2008 with delegations from 192 countries (~10 000 people).

The meeting in Poznan in December 2008 is a milestone in the global process on how to tackle Climate Change. It is a process that was started by the Kyoto Protocol in 1997. It is a meeting hosted by the United Nations.
It's aims are to:
- Get countries to agree on a plan of action and programmes of work, leading up to and smoothing the way for the ultimate meeting in Copenhagen in December 2009.
- Make progress on issues such as capacity-building for developing countries, reducing emissions from deforestation, technology transfer and adaptation.
- Create a "shared vision" and strengthen global commitment to the process.
COP14 in Poznan. On 1-12 December 2008, the 14th Conference of the Parties to Climate Convention - COP14 - serving as the 4th Meeting of the Parties to the Kyoto Protocol (COP14/MOP4) will be held in Poznan, Poland. The Convention output achieved so far, as well as that under the Kyoto Protocol, will be summarized there. Poland will make its best efforts in order to arrange this important international meeting in a manner leading to achievement of specific results aimed at stopping climate change and adaptation to inevitable changes. The Poznan meeting is also a milestone on the way towards consensus on the commitments concerning GHGs reduction that is to be reached during the Copenhagen COP in 2009. During the Poznan Conference, particular emphasis will be put on identification of specific examples of successful technology transfer and of the actions on adaptation to climate change, so that these good practices could be promulgated. The Conference will attract about 10,000-12,000 participants from 190 countries. In connection with the Convention panels, it will form an important step leading towards specific actions aimed at the protection of the Earth climate. In his recent address delivered at the UN General Assembly, Professor Maciej Nowicki, Polish Environmental Minister, declared to organise a world exhibition in Poznan that will present innovative inventions and management solutions serving for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, beginning from the simplest solutions trough the most advanced technologies.

Konferencja Narodów Zjednoczonych w Sprawie Zmian Klimatu Poznań 2008
"Zmień nawyki na dobre, zmień klimat na lepszy".
XIV Konferencja Klimatyczna ONZ odbędzie się w Poznaniu w dniach od 1 do 12 grudnia 2008. Wezmą w niej udział delegacje ze 192 krajów świata (ok. 10 tys. ludzi)
1 - 12 grudnia 2008 r. w Poznaniu odbędzie się Konferencja COP14 (XIV Konferencja Stron Ramowej Konwencji Narodów Zjednoczonych w sprawie zmian klimatu) wraz z IV Sesją Spotkania Stron Protokołu z Kioto (COP/MOP4). To najbardziej prestiżowe forum dyskusji politycznej w zakresie ochrony klimatu, skupiające uwagę całego świata, będzie miało w tym roku niezwykłe znaczenie. Od powodzenia negocjacji prowadzonych w Poznaniu zależy dalszy los zainicjowanej Protokołem z Kioto walki o zmniejszenie emisji CO2 i ograniczenie globalnego ocieplenia.
Po roku 2012 wygasają postanowienia pierwszej fazy Protokołu. Jeśli po 2012 roku proces ma być kontynuowany, w Poznaniu muszą zostać wyznaczone kolejne cele. To ostatni moment, aby nowe uzgodnienia zdążyły przejść proces ratyfikacji i wejść w życie już za cztery lata. Brak sukcesów w Poznaniu grozi tym, że od 2013 roku zabraknie konkretnych, globalnych zobowiązań dotyczących redukcji emisji gazów cieplarnianych i utracimy szansę na powstrzymanie zmian klimatu.
Decyzje, które zapadną w Poznaniu muszą wyznaczać prostą drogę do ostatecznego porozumienia, jakie zostanie podpisane podczas COP15 w grudniu 2009 w Kopenhadze. Bez tego porozumienia świat wkroczy w okres post-2012 bez zobowiązań i tym samym zaprzepaści dotychczasowe wysiłki włożone w walkę z globalnym ociepleniem.

Sądzę że zwiększoną akcyzą na paliwo prędzej namówią Polaków do oszczędnej jazdy. :> Oczywiście nie chcę tego.
