After introducing the G4 Cube at Macworld New York in 2000, here is the promotional video that was shown. Although praised for its innovative industrial design, the Cube fails to catch on with creative professionals because it's too expensive, not powerful enough and hard to upgrade. The Cube is "put on ice" in July 2001 with Apple promising that it will be "reborn" in another form at a later date. Its widely accepted that the Mac mini computer was its successful replacement.

Unfortunately, the G4 Cube was hands down the worse computer ever developed. Everything was centered around a heat sink in the middle of the unit without any fans. The hard drive was extremely rough to remove from the unit. It had AGP graphics, but it was adapted to a PCI riser card, which reduced the 64bit AGP down to 32bit PCI. In my days of being an Apple repair technician, I have never seen a unit with as many problems as the G4 Cube. Just my two cents worth.

Agreed. It's overpriced, too, $700 for the Mini, plus $100 for a monitor and an extra $100 for peripherals, and you could have bought a MacBook with equal power.

If they make a spiritual successor to the NeXT Cube or the G4 Cube, I'll be the first to buy it.

They should replace the mini with something like this. The mini is too low end.

You can. Cube PSUs have a fan connector, and the core has mounting points for a 60mm fan. Reliability solved.

He's been with Apple before Steve Jobs came back. You should have seen him with hair. He looks better bald.
