Subject: Summary of message of friendship from Bush to Saddam.
Ambassador was summoned by President Saddam Husayn at noon,
25th of July. Also present were Fonmin Aziz, Husayn's Office
Director, Two notetakers and the Iraqi interpreter.
Picking his words with care, Saddam said there are "some
circles" in the USG, including CIA and the State Department,
but emphatically excluding the President (Bush) and secretary
Baker, who are not friendly to Iraq-US relations.
The ambassador stated that Bush too wants friendship and
that these "circles" certainly existed.
He also
noted facts supporting his conclusion "some circles are
gathering information about who might be Saddam's successor"
and that these same circles were responsible for undermining
Iraq image in the Gulf and that they worked to ensure that no
help would go to Iraq.Iraq, which has a 4 billion dollar
US debt, needs a Marshall plan "but still you want the oil
price down". He recalled the USIA campaign against himself
and the Media assault against Iraq and it's President.
...
Despite his hate campaign Saddam still hoped for good relations with the US, but said:"those who are forcing oil prices down are engaging in economic warfare" and Iraq could not accept this trespass on dignity and prosperity."just as Iraq will not threaten
others, it will accept not threat against itself. We hope the
USG will understand.
The US government knows that it was Iraq, not the USG
...
...Saddam stated that they do not want more war. He said the decision
on the PLO dialogue was "mistaken" and it was taken under Zionist
Pressure. He asked the US to consider the Human Rights of
200.00 arabs with the same vigor and interest as the Israeli
Human Rights.
Saddam was concerned for the regional peace and that it was
his duty as a regional superpower. "But how can we make them
see how much we suffer? The Pensions for widows and orphans
have to be cut"
At this point the interp. and on of the notetakers broke down
in tears. (can you imagine)
if the Kuwaiti's at leats give us some hope. The Ambassador was
delighted to hear this good news. Saddam said to convey his warm
greetings and his message to Bush.
*Note: on the border question. Saddam referred to the 1961 "
agreement and a "line of patrol" it had established. The Kuwaiti's,
he said, told Mubarak that Iraq was 20km infront of this line.
The Ambassador replied that she had served in Kuwait 20 years
before and that then as now US took no position on these affairs.
Comment: Saddam never summoned an ambassador. He is worried.
(what has he to worry about if he is not planning any military
action for the near future near Kuwait?) Iraq still recieves
mortal threats from from Iran and Israel. Saddam cannot allow
himself to be perceived as caving into superpower bullying as
warned in 1988. Iraq, which lost hundred thousands of casualties
is suffering and Kuwait is "selfish". Saddam also admitted the US
has every right to ask Iraq's intentions and expect an answer.
His response was that he tried various diplomatic channels before
resorting to childish intimidation and at least some "virtue of
frankness". His emphasis that he wants peaceful settlement is
surely sincere but the terms sound difficult to achieve. Saddam
wants pledges on oil prices and production to cover the next
several months.

Iraqi press makes no mention of incursion. Iraqi press coverage
of the Kuwait/Iraq talks are critical of Kuwait's uncompromising
position but do not in any way suggest that Iraq is considering
military option.
I made my son and his friends watch this as they like to play the video wargames...put things into a whole new perspective for them. Thanks my friend interesting copy ;) But this voice gives me the creeps ;p

I changed the voice in the later vids and it sounded a bit more natural. I'll use the vid again soon ;)
It's crazy how they make games look exactly like a war that is still going on. And kids get a sense of: "let's kill some arabs today" I know for a fact that arabs and muslems are wonderful people, but that's not what the media makes us believe... Love Peace and Unity :)

@powersack: the video could not be more appropriate since it reveals how USA does business, militarily or politically. The world does not need to know...
