Men of War II has the similar sort of bug.  (Still present in latest version, last time I checked.) When you drop an item from your inventory, the engine applies physics but runs the "if knife hits something, apply damage" check. So if you discard a knife there is a chance it will touch your player object while falling to the ground, for a one-hit instant kill.
