RIP Les Paul, who died today. For those of you who don't know, that's who's playing lead guitar on this song.

I heard this song from Ken Burns' WWII documentary, "The War". I immediately felt in love with this song. What a great song sung by a great performer! Thank you for posting.

They don't make songs like this anymore. Love it.

I used to have a Bing Crosby collection of songs called "Bing - A Musical Autobiography" He mentions on the record that when he recorded this, Les Paul only used a Gibson four string acoustical guitar. It was probably the most popular song of 1945, coinciding with the GI's from WWII. It has the same feeling for that generation as "Tie A Yellow Ribbon Round the Oak Tree" did for returning Vietnam veterans.

1945. World War II is winding down-I imagine all the war weary men and women, far from home and missing their significant others, listening to this song. What emoticons it must have welled up in them!

This brings back memories of my parents, who were from that generation. Thanks for posting.

Being from that generation, I especially like Bing's rendition of this song with Les Paul. It's yummy. Thanx, der Rosen Kavalier - and excellent operetta, btw.
