When John Kennedy stopped in Elgin, Illinois in 1960 my grandfather brought his movie camera and filmed it.

Notice the photographer in the background. I think it is Stanley Tretick who captured this photograph at that event: http://artfiles.art.com/images/PRODUCTS/large/12176000/12176302.jpg

  • I was, like, two years old, if that at the time this film was shot.

My family lived on Hinsdell Pl. then, near downtown.

  • Cool. I was 4.

  • what year was this?

  • 1960

  • I don't know the street address, but if you recall where the Spiess Department store on Grove Ave. was, it was right there in front of it.

  • Too bad Elgin could never get a presidential candidate to come here now. Wouldn't be safe. Heck, it's not safe for regular people let alone a candidate.
