I think people should answer census questions honestly. If you do not think Jesus was born or a virgin, healed the blind with spit, drove demons into pigs, rose from the dead, and flew into heaven, then you should probably not consider yourself a Christian. Neither should you tick Christian if you were baptised, confirmed, or attend church for weddings and funerals. Similar arguments can be made for other religions.
Politicians, public policies, and Government funds are influenced by census data. It is crucial the information is accurate. For example, the Australian Government has invested $450 million to supply Chaplains to public schools, which has been largely influenced by the belief it's in the public interest. 95% of these positions are are supplied by a group called "Scripture Union" which makes its evangelical nature clear in its mission statement. This is only one example.
If you truly believe the laws of the land should be for everybody, not just members of religious organisations, then make sure your census form is correct. Claiming you're a Jedi will only result in a wasted opportunity.
The last official Census form looked like this http://cl.ly/5tbZ As you can see, there are a number of inherit problems with the form - it assumes the individual has a religion, then emphasises some religions over others (there are many more, but you must look up the codes in an associated book).
This is not an official Atheist Foundation of Australia (AFA) advertisement (although I am a member).
See http://www.censusnoreligion.org/ for more information.
The song is John Farnham's "You're the voice" - a massive hit for the singer in Australia back in the day.
