Yes, Switzerland is big on gun ownership, but the Swiss also own guns as part of their national militias, which is tightly regulated. In short, they are far more disciplined with their guns than the American gun-nuts and NRA idiots, who want gun ownership rights without the responsibilities that come with them.

To the Swiss, guns are a national security matter. To the Americans, guns are fucking toys. Big difference.

Universal health care... sort of. They have not a national/centralized social security system, and health care is based on private insurance mandate. Little in common with highly socialized medicine in other parts of Europe. Of course the swiss government helps low-income households if they cannot afford it... Taking care of all citizens is much easier when you actually control the borders and give no easy citizenship.

Swiss tax revenue as a share of GDP is very low compared to the rest of Europe. The red tape is considerably smaller and the administration more efficient (i could tell you about friends who moved their business there). And the income tax rate for the upper households ranges from 20% to 40%, with a truly low federal tax rate of 11.5%. The low tax revenue in USA has a lot to do with the lack of a national VAT there (consumption taxes are the 1st source of revenue in most Europe).
