I did overexaggerate a little, but you gotta remember that when you want to preserve as much as possible, it will cost more money. A new boiler is no the biggest problem. The frame would have to be thoroughly inspected and repaired if necessary. and the tender, well, I would vote to rebuild it rather than replace it. Not sure that affects cost there, but again, the small things add up...

  • @SierraRailway You're a bit off on restoration costs. She would need a new boiler but that would be about 300,000. Running gear would need cleaning up considering a lot of meet is left on crownbrass. The tender would be around 50,000 shooting high. Hell, 2 million dollars would put a big boy in service.

If Reno went to a museum to be restored, she would get a brand new cab to match her original(the current one was built to look like UP #119's) and her boiler would be cleaned up but NOT replaced. To return the Reno to full operation would be at least 1 3/4 million dollars, if not 2 million considering the damage that Old Tuscon has dealt her. Her tender would have to be totally rebuilt or replaced, since it was gutted for a diesel air compressor. TOO much work for most museums today.

that is also not true. #3 has totally outmatched the Reno's career in every way, but she herself has been in just a little over a hundred MOVIES. She has starred in over 200 television and film productions altogether.

  • This once-proud Baldwin is going to need a total rebuild to be functional, especially a new boiler to replace the stocker---looks as though she went into the ditch, judging from the massive cease right behind the smokebox.

  • it said on the plague Reno is the most photographed locomotive in history, that is not true, although it has been in 100 movies, Sierra railroad #3 has been in over 200 movies.

  • lol, i see a bunch of crap in there

  • How bout repairing the reno and moving to the train station in Tucson near locomotive 1673

  • @virginiatruckee We should be thankful she isn't in a place like Oregon, of all the locomotives here, I've only scene two decent ones on display that weren't maintained by groups. However the Reno needs a better home. I almost think the V&T recon. commission could do better than Old Tucson.

  • No problem. I don't know the Reno that well, but thanks.

She was last featured in Wild Wild West. Her cab just needs a repaint, since it was replaced in 96 for use in the film in 99.
