Native American PowWow dance had its 2nd anniversary out at Sheridan College Friday and Saturday. There were fifteen different dances. Competitors danced in handmade costumes that took months to make, and some weighed up to sixty pounds. Joe LaForge helped put the event together.
The second annual Native America Powwow took place Friday and
Saturday at Sheridan Colleges Bruce Hoffman Golden Dome.
According to Sheridan College, approximately 75 competitors from an estimated
five tribes took part in the event. Some 200 spectators witnessed the powwow
Friday.
One attendee was Joe Medicine Crow, who was awarded the Presidential
Medal of Freedom by President Barack Obama in August. Medicine Crow led
the grand entry Saturday.
