I've done some research and buffett donated the equivalents of 1.53 $billion in A and B BRK shares to the gates foundation this year,bringing down buffett's ownership in Berkshire Hathaway to almost 25% if I'm correct.

Buffett has announced he will donate most of his Berkshire shares to charity (now over $35 BILLION) in yearly 5% donations (each July). It started in '06 so he's already donated ~$6 BILLION.

His total donation is, I believe, by far the largest in history. Yes, I think we can fairly say it's generous.
