General Electric really knew how to make some great radios back in the day. This one sounds excellent with its large 4"x6" oval speaker, and has outstanding reception on AM -- I wouldn't be surprised if it shared some circuitry with GE's "Superadio" series. The lighted dial, continuously variable clock dimmer, and external antenna and ground connections are all features you wouldn't expect on a clock radio, either.

  • Jeez! How many different AM music stations can you pick up? We have none here, not even at night. All country or right-wing fascist talk. I used to listen to AM oldies on 1230 KWTX and that Stevie Wonder sounds EXACTLY right :)

  • I live within range of NYC and Philadelphia, as well as many local NJ stations, so there is quite a lot. Due to the large population, everyone wants to get their own slice of the pie, so a lot of small low-power stations remain on the air. The Gospel music station heard at the beginning of the video (1070 WKMB) as well as the strange Indian music station (1170 WWTR) are both 250-watt daytimers!

  • Separate bass and treble controls on clock radios are rare. Thrift store find?

  • Yup! I paid $3.99 for it.

  • I have this same exact clock! Got it at a thrift store for $2 on Saturday. (Comment Posted: 1/11/12)

  • What a great radio! The large speaker sounds fantastic and AM reception is really good. I'd also assume that it's from the mid 80s. Judging from the design, I'd guess it was made in 1983 or 84. At least in Europe radios introduced in 1983 looked this way.

  • Which year is this Rodio? Can somebody tell me Please!

  • I just picked up this same unit (7-4691) at my local thrift store. It is an amazing unit that tunes and sounds beautifully! Only issue with mine is the selector switch is hard to move, other than that and some scratches it is one of the best performing radios that I own.

  • Central Jersey is one of the toughest spots for radio reception, with mountains and valleys and bad terrain everywhere causing multipath distortion, so this performance with not too much static is remarkable. Great, timeless look to this unit, too. Thanks!

  • that's quite a variety there on am!

  • i have one just sorta like this, but its a model 7-4950a.

  • If that radio don't wake you up, nothing will!

  • Nice radio but I find that the blue light displays cast too much light when they are in a darkened room. I'm light sensitive so I prefer the red LED displays on the old Sony's.

  • that would look good on my nightstand
