So you get the HDMI video, but now you can't just plug in the audio in the back your TV and expect to get audio. Since The HDMI input uses it's own audio source via the HDMI cable itself. So I assume you plugged the audio into a separate audio receiver?

my laptop is a dell older model that has no speaker outlet port, this is how i solved the volume problem I never use the builtin speaker system . when you plug the male jack into your computer there is no sound until you plug in speakers that are self powered by it's power adapter plug into a wall plug [120 volt] now all you need is a system that amplifies it's self [ exterior speakers. the whole system might cost about 25 dollars. Unless you go crazy an buy a small guitar amp.I love it outside.

heres how you solve the sound problem cheap plug into the head set with 3.5 jack that has an adapter converter with a female end now buy a set of exterior speakers that have a male jack plug. Plug it into the female convert plug that is in your headset outlet. Note; these speakers must have their source adapter powering the speakers you can now produce loud volume. The head set is sound going out not in. I even hook this system to an guitar amp. Now thats kicking ass. Doesn't hurt sound card

do i have to buy onw of them video converter boxes ?
i want to connect my net book (samsung nc10) to my big screen tv downstairs.
my netbook only has a VGA output.
My big screen tv downstairs only has a HDMI input.
So i just purchased a lead from e bay which is VGA to HDMI.
So i can connect the VGA side to my Netbook and the HDMI to the tv.
But i just had a second thought, what about the sound.
i spoke to someone and he told me that this will only transfer the VIDEO but not the sound.
