@Jcolinsol There are some scientists that study the brain and almost use your description of democracy to describe how we as individuals come to our own decisions. A sort of committee in our unconscious that makes our decisions for us. Which may account for the huge unmanageable wars within people's own minds. A fractalized version of consensus and choice.

@Jcolinsol nice post..
i see his work more as art, because he projects a subjective interpretation of history

Democracy is, sort of, government by statistical average. The rule of law established by democracy isn't the law of any of the real individuals out there, it's a mathematical abstraction. It's a bit dangerous, because it allows the bizarre psychological compulsions of the public to manifest in a collective manner. That's why we have huge unmanageable wars for no real reason.
Frankly, I think we're moving into the age of Thelema.

I get a bit troubled with Adam Curtis apparent anti-individualist sentiment. His documentaries are amazing, the way he captures the oscillations through history as people become exactly what they are ideologically against. But in the end, he tends to pick the side that he prefers and try to defend it, see the trap for an example.
To me, it seems obvious to me that we continually develop false dichotomies that limit us to a binary perspective, both sides wrong, but unable to see it.

The mainstream media loves the polarization of the internet .
Theist versus atheist, left versus right because it goods TV .
There not in the news business there in the entertainment business.
This is why most of the best known bloggers are just shite reactionists protaganists hoping that their little blog gets a play on sky news.
By apeing the same shit that you see on TV.

OUCH Adam Curtis, The Stupidity of Crowds. That hurts. I thought he liked democracy! But he's got a point . Now that we have Internet we get stupidity in our faces much more than before. Maybe its something like the "print bias" that makes internet more punchy than human voices. Journalism is fading away. Speech is not always communication but instead solipsism.

Thank you for this interview.
Curtis has a lot of interesting theories on subjects such as this.
I'd be interested to see if he will elaborate on any of these in the future.
.
@coreolis7 democracy, at least in its current expedient form, is a method of polling the people on exactly how they want to be subjugated by a disparate elite oligarchical class comprised of the beneficiaries of free market capitalism.. I think that was implicit both in "The Century Of The Self" and "The Trap".
