1940 is easily the most derasive chant that ever exsisted in sports. It is easily the MOST derasive chant to have ever exsisted in the NHL.
As a person who witnessed its birth and part-took in it when the Isles slammed the Rangers in the 1981 semi-finals(now called the conf. finals) when the chant was really born, I can tell you with 150% honesty and certainty that it drove Ranger fans insanely mad.

You are missing the point of what that person is saying, the CAA did not have 1,940 seats, it was 19,040 seats. Ranger fans always bragged about how they sell out others arena's. Well the Devils cleverly devised a catch-22 when and if Ranger fans did in fact sell out their arena. And they did, to which the Ranger fans would have to hear this message "Tonight's game is a sellout with NINTEEN................pause..
...........THOUSAND.....FORTY. " The fans would then chant 1940 over and over again. -
This was copied from a vid about the Buffalo Sabres.

Ok. So the attendance was less then 1,940 at the coliseum. I guess the Devils had more.
-
1,940 was the attendance of the C.A.A., the former home of the New Jersey Devils, not the Nassau Coliseum.

beside the scrum in the stands, that was pretty boring...no goal footage..

During the years prior to 1994 when the fishsticks fans used to chant 1940. Was that 1,940 the average attendance to a fishsticks home game they were chanting about? Lets face it the only time that dump in Uniondale sells out is when N.Y.'s greatest hockey team, the N.Y. Rangers, plays there.

yea whatever, typos, who cares

nice english.
Ranger fans are funny because they brag about shit when they haven't won a damn thing yet. How does it feel that going into the playoffs you lost to a team with a NCAA roster? If you win a few rounds, then by all means talk your shit. But, tomorrow if you lose to the Devils, have no home ice, and lose in the first round, your team ends up with one of the biggest dissapointments in your franchises history. You guys crowned yourselves Cup champs before the season even started, and don't deny it.
