ANCHOR:
Twenty air guitar players from all corners of the world battled for the world championship title in Finland on Friday. They eagerly demonstrated their masterful command of their invisible instruments in front of a large crowd. Here's more.
STORY:
The man to beat was reigning champion Ochi "Dainoji" Yosuke from Japan.
Great performances were seen from "musicians" from as far away as Australia, New Zealand, Japan, United States, and South Africa as well as many from Europe. They had all trained hard before traveling all the way to northern Finland away with the title World Air Guitar Champion.
[Craig "Hot Lixx Hulahan" Billmeier, Winner]:
"I got to hear the song a few times, it's a really fun song, there is a couple of dynamic shifts, it's a place to pose, it's a really well picked song."
Air guitar playing became popular in the 1970s when guitar solos inspired teenagers to mime their idols. In 1996, the first air guitar championship was held here in Oulu.
