In 1928, Spanish composer Manuel de Falla recorded a version of his "Siete Canciónes Populares Españolas" song cycle with himself on piano and soprano Maria Barrientos.
In 2011, current classical music stars cellist Zuill Bailey and soprano Isabel Bayrakdarian were able to perform these same songs live in the studio with Falla at the piano, even though he had died years before.
This was made possible by revolutionary technology from Zenph Sound Innovations which can turn old audio recordings back into live performances, precisely replicating every note and nuance played in the original recording.
Building on previous re-performance/live artist collaborations with Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band (with Art Tatum) and violinist Joshua Bell (with Sergei Rachmaninoff), Zenph released Zuill and Isabel's duets with Falla on their fifth album, entitled "The Spanish Masters."
In this video, Zuill and Isabel talk about the excitement and challenges of breathing new life into a beautiful song cycle and crossing the boundaries of time to perform with the composer himself.
