  • Tebaldi is in stunning voice here. She sounds the perfect Verdi soprano. Strange she never sang this role on stage. Would have been perfect for her.

  • Too bad she never sang it on stage. It suits her like a glove - great interpretation.

We love you Renata - What a voice.

  • Renata Tebaldi often included this aria to her concert program. This recording comes from Michigan,Gran Rapids Auditorium,on March,18 1966.She also sang arias from Butterfly,Manon Lescaut,Gioconda and Mefistofele.Carl Karapetian was the conductor.

  • Are you sure the year is right? Sounds like a younger Tebaldi.

  • Did she really not sing this on stage? Of course, it's probably just a concert.

  • @MarcoCallas claen out your ears marco and you will hear all the trills and turns of the score in the caballetta. Tebaldi was not in the habit of ignoring the composers wishes and she would never sing an aria if she could not do it full justice.listen closely those are not wobbles they are trills.

  • @Adinacapricciosa concordo in pieno!

  • Criticare la Tebaldi è un'eresia!!!!!!!

Rather concerned about the the abundant unperformed trills, and all the rest. Nobody will ever question the beauty of Tebaldi's voice. Only the pertinence of her singing roles that are out of her technical reach, like this one. There are no trills performed in this performance. And the trills are written. But it doesn't really matter if one considers that music is to be just nice and not precise.

  • liberty city stories

  • What was she doing in Michigan? That's extremely random... Great singing though. She gave them one Hell of a concert. :-)

  • She sounds glorious here. And if you're overly concerned about the few quick trills, please remember that Callas' trills were not always perfect, Milanov didn't have a trill, Caballé's "trill" only had one pitch in it! What Tebaldi shows here, the creamy long line, the involvement, the effortless beauty of tone, grandeur with intimacy--well, it's a gorgeous sing. Thank you for posting this rarity!
