Part 2/4. The Nene Valley Railway held it's annual 'Autumn Diesel Gala' over the weekend of the 30th September, 1st and 2nd October 2011. This video was taken on the 2nd October 2011 and features locations such as Mill Lane Bridge, Splash Dyke, Castor Bank, Station Road Crossing and Wansford Station.

Locomotives seen at this event included from the home fleet, Class 31 No. 31108 and Class 14 No. 14029. Visiting locomotives included Class 20 No. 20107, Class 37 No. 37503, Class 45 No. 45060 'Sherwood Forester', Class 56 No. 56303, Class 08 No. 08622, Class 33 No. D6586 and Class 31 No. D5613 (visiting from the Midland Railway Centre at Butterley and Barrow Hill Roundhouse).

In order of appearance in this video, we start at Mill Lane Bridge. Here we see No. D6586 with a train for Peterborough Nene Valley, No. 20107 also with a service for Peterborough Nene Valley, No. D6586 returning, No. 37503 with a service for Peterborough Nene Valley, No. 20107 seen again heading towards Wansford and No. 56303 (leading) and No. 31108 double heading a passenger working for Peterborough Nene Valley. At Splash Dyke, No. 37503 with a passenger service for Wansford, No. 45060 'Sherwood Forester' with a service in the opposite direction and No. 56303 (leading) and No. 31108 with a passenger service for Wansford. Next we move to Castor Bank, near Lynches Bridge where we see No. 20107 at the head of a train bound for Peterborough Nene Valley, No. 45060 working up the bank in the opposite direction and No. D6586 with a working for Peterborough Nene Valley. Then we move to Castor Lane Crossing where No. 20107 is seen heading towards Wansford, No. 31108 (leading) and No. D5613 double heading a working towards Peterborough Nene Valley, No. D6586 with a service for Wansford, No. 56303 with a service for Peterborough Nene Valley, No. D5613 (leading) and No. 31108 double heading a working towards Wansford and No. 37503 (leading) and No. 20107 double heading a service towards Peterborough Nene Valley. Moving to the River Nene, just outside Wansford Station, No. 56303 is seen crossing the bridge outside the station and heading into Wansford, No. D5613 heading out of the station with a service for Peterborough Nene Valley and No. 56303 light engine heading into Wansford after uncoupling.

Then a series a shots taken from Wansford Station itself. No. 45060 'Sherwood Forester' is examined in detail, No. 14029 is seen moving off shed, No. D6513 is then examined closely, No. 20107 (leading) and No. 37503 double heading are seen heading into the station from the Peterborough direction, No. 45060 'Sherwood Forester' is seen moving off shed, then two shots of No. 45060 'Sherwood Forester' running round the carriages to top n' tail the next service, whilst No. 14029 couples to the Yarwell end of the train, No. 14029 is examined in closer detail before we see No. 14029 (leading) head for Yarwell Junction with No. 45060 'Sherwood Forester' at the rear, No. 31108 and No. 08622 are examined in closer detail, No. D5613 is seen arriving into Platform 2 having come from Peterborough Nene Valley and is examined in closer detail, No. 45060 'Sherwood Forester' is seen top n' tailing the return working from Yarwell Junction with No. 14029 at the rear, shots of No. 14029 de-coupling from the train, No. D5613 also de-coupling from it's train, No. 37503 moving off shed and running round to the front of the train in Platform 2, No 08622 moving off shed and onto the rear of the train in Platform 2, No, D5613 and No. 14029 moving into the shed, No. 08622 (leading) and No. 37503 top n' tailing a working towards Yarwell Junction, No. 56303 arrives at Platform 2, No. D6586 moves off shed as No. 56303 moves off the train, No. 14029 backs onto the Yarwell end of the train, No. D6586 moves to the front to couple up as No. 08622 and No. 56303 move on shed, a close look taken at No. 20107 and finally No. 14029 (leading) and No. D6586 top n' tail a working towards Yarwell Junction.

The highlights of this video included the double headed runs throughout the day that included various loco combinations and the return to service of Class 14 No. 14029 which has only recently being returned to service.

  • @cmeonthemove Thanks Chris. Yes I've sneakily caught you filming in my shots. Your right, all the footage in the third and fourth parts will be after you both left. All the rest is taken at Wansford Station.

  • Another great collection. Love the thrash from the 37/20 double header. You've got some more great angles especially over the canal and in Wansford (apart from seeing myself on the videos of the Peak & the 14!).

    Looking forward to Parts 3 & 4 as I'm guessing that will be the footage after Chris & I left?
