Our 3 month old Dusky Conure. Any tips on potty training and care are much appreciated:) We have never owned any kind of bird before but so far we love him. Oh yeah we also need a name for him...we are having a hard time on agreeing on one so suggestions for a name are also welcome:) He is very sweet and loving...and very clutsy!

  • how do u potty train them?? i just got oe myself

  • @rivasideruben well that's a good question:) I have gotten Tootsie to go before I pick him up. This ensures I have some time before he needs to go again. Whenever he would go potty on his cage, I would pick him up. And since he loves being held it was a great motivator. However he still has "accidents" pooping on me which I can not for the life of me figure out. Congrats on the new conure their very cute birds!

  • Can u have a dusky conure in apartments?i have loads of time on my hands...and I know it's a big responsibility do can I have 1 in my apartments?my neibirz don't care (I'm 12 almost 13)

  • @silhowetethehedgehog I know someone who has a sun conure in an apartment. Altlhough she has to keep her covered a lot and I think she stays in her cage a lot. I donm't recommend it for an apartment. Maybe parakeets or even finches...lovebirds are good I think they can be quiet. Tootsie can be extremely loud when he wants to be, usually when I leave him by himself and in the mornings.

  • Hey I have a dusky conure and she is sooo lovely. Manet they can hook up. They are the same size lol.

  • @Slatortue1 you mean to breed? I've thought about it.. but Tootsie is still a baby himself. Maybe when he is older in a couple more years (more sexually mature). At any extent thanks for watching! Their great birds!

  • @cutietwo22 we usually put him with other kinds of birds to have some company. We've put him with cockatiels, parakeets, and even an Eclectus. They usually get along, but at a distance, and usually the other birds are the aggressive ones, not him lol.

  • @Sonus888 wow have u had him the whole 14 years? I hope to have tootsie until the ripe old age of 30 or older :) Tootsie does not seem to care who holds him, as long as he is being held, he loves any kind of attention. Tootsie does not like going in shirts or the like ..weird b/c most conures seem to. I've always wanted to try and introduce tootsie to another conure, but I have a feeling that it won't go well. Hope Gonzo continues to do well!

  • I have a 14 year old dusky named Gonzo. he is absolutely amazing, though he is kind of a one person bird. if anyone (except my mom) approaches me while i have him, he will bite my finger once and then suddenly get all cuddly like hes sorry. Mine also likes to get into my shirt and turn around so he is facing forward with his neck past my collar, and he will sit there forever. Gonzo is kind of a social bird with the others in the house, but they dont get along when we place any of them together.
