Paraplegic, Martin Presses Legs into Action

Andrea is supporting my paralysed legs on the leg press whie i "think through" and visualise my legs working at the same time I push with all my might through my legs. Notice that I am using my hands on my knees to enable the push. This is how all my seemingly impossible leg exercises start- with a mix of visualisation and intensive, assisted exercise-therapy. I've founf that after a few weeks (in some cases) I begin to find that the muscls I am focussing on begin to make tiny movements on their own....on my command. This is enormously encouraging and you have no idea ghow exciting the tiiest glimmer of movement or vague "sensation" is.

Just to put all this in perspective. I have been paralysed from the waqist down for 35-years. There's no medical cure for spinal cord injury and doctors say I'll never walk again. These days I see things differently to most doctors and expect success in my healing. I believe life is more fun when you're healthy and that regular exercise-therapy is the key to reorganising the central nervous system, and overcoming paralysis.

Andrea and I have been working together on the leg press exercise in this video for a couple of months now and we firmly believe that with time, patience and continued focus and persistence, my quads, glutes and hamstrings will awake from the sleep of paralysis and I will regain control of my body below the waist.
