Globalization Documentary
The purpose of this documentary is to expose the efforts Facebook, as a company, has made to incorporate people of all cultures, nationalities and languages into its network; by doing so efficiently, more interaction on a personal and commercial level among people from around the world has resulted. The documentary initially focuses on the advancement of technology and the recent merger of the computer, Internet and cell phone, thus allowing individuals to access information and people at all times and all places. Facebook, which had its origins on a college campus in the United States, strategically chose to tap into the international market that dominates the majority of Internet users. This global Facebook community fosters a tolerant and educational environment for other cultures. Businesses of all sizes, from local shops to international chain stores and brands, followed suit and recognized the market Facebook and its users had created. By creating fan pages and profiles, businesses are able to easily receive feedback from their fans and friends. They also have the ability to control information released describing their companys brand, thus molding fans perceptions of the companys product or reputation. Individual celebrities and politicians have caught onto the trend as well. President Barack Obama updates his nearly 7,000,000 fans with happenings in their national government. The documentary also illuminates some of the drawbacks of Facebook, namely personal security and privacy issues. Also, many are concerned that the virtual Facebook network encourages a false sense of friendship. Despite these negative points, the conclusion of the documentary reveals that individual users, businesses, politicians and celebrities continue to regard Facebook as a beneficial tool, whether they use it for social networking, marketing or publicity.
