We met up on a Saturday afternoon at John's place in Highland Park. The living room had been completely taken over -- one of the couches moved into the kitchen to make room for the drum set, amps, PA (not to mention the 5 band members). It was a bit of an experiment taking the top off the upright, but definitely a good choice. And even with all the windows open, it was already getting warm, but that's just how it goes in late April that far from the coast I guess. Fortunately, there were plenty of drinks and pre-performance merriment to go around (and I was graciously introduced to Simpler Times, which has my money on best odds to beat out PBR as the new hipster beer of choice).

It was a bit of an unknown how it was all going to come together when they sat down to play; a recently tuned piano, a laptop tracking through a PA, brushes bought at a pawn shop that morning for the drums. But these are beautifully crafted songs, and though lush with careful texture and timbre on the album, each part has been so thoughtfully arranged that they'd still work stripped down on any level.

At its heart, Seasons is indie pop at it's best; head-bobbing hooks, great change-ups, all wrapped up in a pleasingly familiar sound and articulated with disillusioned yet optimistic lyricism. And with each song somehow catchier than the last, you'll undoubtedly be inadvertently finding yourself humming their tunes in the back of your head. But most of all, you can't ignore these guys exuberance. Their generally high spirits and the joy in their music really transcends.
