  • How funny! I used to have a HMV record, also from the late 20's, with a Norwegian, comedy duo, Zetterstrøm & Kristoffersen, telling lame jokes and singing bad songs, one of which is this one, with a burlesque Norwegian text. Does anyone know this song's origin? Any details on the label?

  • The song was actually written by Frank Crumit, so the Norwegian version must have been a knock-off of this one. It was also recorded on different labels by other artists, so it must have been fairly popular. I'm not surprised it was also recorded in different languages as well.

  • Thanks for putting this one on. My mother who is in her eighties has listened to it and now can see the advantages of You Tube! She previously thought it was only for delinquent teenagers-thanks once again.

  • LOL. You're both welcome.

  • I held the phone up to the computer so that my 88-year old mom could listen. She remembers this song fondly from her childhood. Thanks.

  • have these on 78's.lovely to listen to.

  • Very funny, very nice. Thanks. There's an orchestal version also very much funny.

  • I'm really pleased to hear this Crumit once again. Haven't heard it for close on 50 years. I inherited a windup HMV gramophone from my grandfather about 1960 with a stack of 78s--Gaballero, Prune, Adbul, and the great pig song and many more. Needless to say as a kid they soon got broken. When I was 12 and a PIA, I'd play this and deliberately ask my mother what's all the fuss about up on the balcony--dunno was the reply. Of course, that's what I expected her to say. Ha, just luv it. ;-)

  • still have some 70 rpm records of Frank..he was my dad's favorite.....dad died 1947......

  • It must have been popular in Norway! Comedian Einar Rose recorded a version called "Don Juan" ca. 1929, in this the lyrics seem to be a satire on Enrico Caruso's popularity with the ladies.

  • I love Frank Crumit thank you

  • Thanks for posting this - and the others :)
